FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

What are natural polyphenols?

Polyphenols are organic compounds found mainly in plants and fruits, which have the function of protecting them against insects, ultraviolet radiation and microbial infections.

Tannins are polyphenols of plant origin, with molecular weights generally between 500 and 3000 atomic mass units. They are classified as hydrolysable or condensable, according to their carbon skeleton.

Hydrolysable tannins are made up of several molecules of phenolic acids, such as gallic and ellagic. They are called hydrolyzable, since their ester bonds are susceptible to hydrolysis by acids or enzymes.

Condensed tannins are made up of flavonoid units, with different degrees of condensation. They are compounds that are more resistant to fragmentation.

The tannins present in Black Acacia are of the condensed type.

Due to its versatility, in addition to the leather segment and water and effluent treatment, tannin can be used in several other applications, such as: agriculture, pest control, cosmetics, civil construction, nutrition, food and human health, animal nutrition, treatment of metallic surfaces, industrial use, among others.

Yes! They are compounds that have high antioxidant action, acting in the capture and blocking of free radicals, reducing or preventing their action in the animal body.

Yes! Tannins have antimicrobial, bactericidal and antifungal properties that act through their mechanism of action and ability to irreversibly bind with proteins.

Yes! Tannins have effective properties in the fight against termites that can be present in the most varied species of wood. Its mechanism of action is due to its ability to bind with proteins. When polyphenol comes into contact with the insect, it acts causing deformations that culminate in larval mortality, due to its body covering membrane and the protein-based cell membrane itself.

Yes! Tannins are effective in combating detritivorous larvae of the Culicidae family (example: Culex spp. and Aedes aegypti) and Simuliidae (Simulium spp.). Its mechanism of action is due to its ability to bind with proteins. When polyphenol comes into contact with the insect, it acts causing deformations that culminate in larval mortality, due to its body covering membrane and the protein-based cell membrane itself.

Yes! Rust converters are mainly based on the action of tannins on iron oxide, the main component of rust, in a more resistant compound, thus forming a protective barrier.

Tannin is a polyphenol of plant origin, which acts as a powerful natural active. In it there are therapeutic properties and virtues, which when associated with other elements forms a powerful sealing agent and nutrient enhancer. In addition, as it comes from a natural source, it does not pose a risk to human health.

Polyphenols serve to help combat oxidative stress in the body, protecting cells from damage and contributing to cardiovascular health and reduced risk of chronic diseases.
