Tannins and their applications: Agriculture

Tannins and their applications: Agriculture

Continuing our series, today we will talk about the use of tannins in agriculture.

The search for more appropriate technologies for sustainable agriculture has driven the demand for natural products. In this scenario, discussions about concepts and technological advances of biostimulants and resistance inducers play an important role in the legalization and use of products with these effects.

But what are biostimulants for and what is their relationship with tannins?

Biostimulants and resistance inducers have been applied in order to modulate the efficiency of different physiological processes in the plant, induce defense responses against diseases, enhance productivity, vigor and/or quality of numerous commercially relevant crops. One of the determining factors that justify the option for biostimulants is the safety for the crop. The product can keep the plants free of pests, even without pesticides. The natural substances in its composition allow a protection to the crop, without exposing the plant to products that are harmful to its development. Among these natural substances, tannins can be used as an additive.
