FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the role of coagulants and flocculants in water and wastewater treatment?

Coagulants and flocculants act in the clarification and purification process in water and wastewater treatment. They react with the impurities present in the water, forming small colloidal particles that combine to form larger particles, the flocs. These flocs precipitate together with proteins and organic compounds in general, helping to remove contaminants such as color, turbidity, hardness, salts, metals, fats and so on, resulting in cleaner water.

The main difference between organic and inorganic coagulants is in the inputs used in their preparations. While inorganic products have their formulations based on metallic salts, organic coagulants are obtained from natural raw materials. All coagulants manufactured by Seta are of natural origin, obtained from renewable raw materials.

We have several products at varying prices in our line of natural tannin-based coagulants. In order to know which of our products will have a better performance in your treatment, the most recommended is that jar-tests be carried out, alternating the product and also the appropriate dosage.

Unlike inorganic coagulants, organic coagulants are efficient even with fluctuations in the pH of the effluent, and this allows reducing costs with alkalizing products. In addition, there is also a considerable improvement in the stability of the flakes generated in the treatment with organic coagulants, making the flotation/decantation process more efficient.

Our ACQUAPOL C1 product has an international certification in the NSF, being in accordance with the strictest regulations that guarantee its quality in the treatment of water for human consumption. You can access our certification here.

Yes, tannin-based coagulants for water treatment are considered safe for the environment. Tannins are natural compounds extracted from plants such as black wattle and are biodegradable, meaning they break down naturally without leaving toxic residues.

Unlike synthetic or metal-based coagulants, tannin does not accumulate heavy metals in the water, thus avoiding potential contamination problems. This characteristic makes tannin-based coagulants an environmentally friendly choice for water treatment.

The tannin-based coagulant contributes significantly to sustainability in water treatment for several reasons. Firstly, it is derived from renewable sources such as acacia trees, which reduces dependence on synthetic chemicals and non-renewable minerals.

In addition, its biodegradability ensures that it doesn't pollute the environment after use, unlike metal-based coagulants that can cause disposal problems.

The use of tannins can also result in less sludge being produced during the treatment process, reducing the costs and environmental impacts associated with sludge disposal.

For these reasons, tannin-based coagulants are a more sustainable option that is in line with responsible environmental management practices.
