Seta biome: Seta’s Forests

All forest raw material used in Seta's processes comes from plantations, which are cultivated to obtain these renewable natural resources. A part of these forests is managed by the company in the Southeast Mountains of Rio Grande do Sul, in the municipalities of Bagé, Canguçu, Encruzilhada do Sul and Piratini.

This operating region is located in the Pampa Biome, characteristic for its natural landscapes formed by extensions of fields and winding reliefs, covered by low and shrubby vegetation. Where you can see large mosaics with natural forests, butiazais, swamps and rocky outcrops, which bring together a great biodiversity.

Approximately 3,000 plant species are known in this biome, such as fork grass (Paspalum notatum), pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana) and native clover (Trifolium polymorphum). In the woods and capons occur the podocarpus (Podocarpus lambertii), the spiny tarumã (Citharexylum montevidense), the cherry tree (Eugenia involucrata), among many others. There is vast plant diversity including the rocky outcrops, mainly cacti (Cereus hildmanianus, Frailea pumila and Parodia mammulosa).

The fauna is also significant, sheltering about 500 species of birds, for example the rhea (Rhea americana), yellow-coat (Xanthopsar flavus), chestnut seedeater (Sporophila cinnamomea), vermilion flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus) and red-spectacled parrot (Amazona pretrei), considered the only migratory parrot species in the country. More than 100 species of terrestrial mammals are also found, such as the haystacks (Leopardus munoai), graxaim (Pseudalopex gymnocercus), tuco-tuco (Ctenomys torquatus), molina’s hog-nosed sjunk (Conepatus chinga), brown brocket deer (Mazama gouazoubira) and southern long-nosed armadillo (Dasypus Hybridus).

At Seta we value the conservation of the environment. We act responsibly, following the precepts of good management practices and contributing to the sustainable development of the regions.
