Natural Products in Animal Nutrition

The use of natural alternatives in animal nutrition has been consolidated over the years, becoming a reality within the scenario of animal protein production.

Pressure from entities involved with food safety and animal comfort, associated with consumer demands, has been the precursor to this change. The growing demand for healthy and safe food raises questions about the use of Growth-Promoting Antibiotics (APC) in animal feed.

But after all, why replace synthetic additives with natural ones?

The withdrawal of APCs in animal nutrition began in the European Union, which, in 2006, banned the use of antibiotics in animal feed. Since then, many countries have been adhering to the restriction and/or prohibition of antibiotics in animal production.

In Brazil, in mid-2018, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), through Ordinance No. 171, expressed its intention to ban the antibiotics tylosin, lincomycin, virginiamycin, bacitracin and tiamulin as APCs.

Natural additives emerge as an alternative, since studies show the negative impacts caused by the use of APC, among them, antimicrobial resistance in bacteria that can cause damage to human health. In other words, bacteria more resistant to traditional antibiotics.

In addition to complying with strict international regulations, these natural compounds promote benefits linked to zootechnical performance parameters and animal health.

Working with plant extracts for 80 years, Seta has developed a product line for animal nutrition. With an exclusive manufacturing process, we seek to extract the best nutrients from nature, combining well-being, animal health and the interests of the production chain.
