Forestry in Brazil covers a vast area of 9.3 million hectares. This number, provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), reflects the significant impact of this agricultural practice in the country. In fact, approximately 70% of all this production is concentrated in the southern region of the country, precisely where Seta is rooted.
In this sense, the importance of forestry goes beyond simple commercial production: it represents a key part of the green economy and sustainable development, generates thousands of jobs and enables the production of countless inputs for industry, while preserving the environment.
Understand better the importance that Silviculture has for sustainability, check the current scenario of this sector in Brazil and find out how Seta operates in this activity and how it stands out by going beyond management and aiming to develop this practice.

The importance of forestry for the environment
Forestry plays a fundamental role in preserving the environment, as it involves the management and cultivation of forests in a sustainable way.
By promoting the planting and proper management of trees, forestry contributes to the conservation of biodiversity, the protection of soil and water resources, the reduction of the impact of climate change and the supply of raw materials for different industries.
Furthermore, sustainably managed forests help absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, contributing to global climate regulation.
In this way, forestry plays a crucial role in promoting sustainability and maintaining the balance of ecosystems.
Forestry in Brazil
With a wide variety of forest ecosystems, Brazil has one of the greatest potential for practicing different types of forestry. These types range from the sustainable management of native forests, to more intensive systems, such as planted forestry, aimed at the rapid production of wood and other products in controlled plantations.
Each approach has its specificities and associated benefits, being essential to meet society's demands for forest resources, while promoting environmental conservation.
Furthermore, technological and methodological advances in the area have enabled more efficient and sustainable management of forests. This includes advanced planting techniques, integrated pest and disease management, and soil and water conservation practices.
The adoption of these practices is vital to guarantee the productivity and profitability of the forestry sector, and also to ensure that forestry activities contribute positively to the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities.
How does Seta work with forestry?
Seta stands out in the national Silviculture scenario through its management aimed at producing bark and wood in logs, especially Black Acacia to obtain chips and tannins.
In the forest cycle, we carry out various maintenance activities, from mowing and fertilization, to pest control and road maintenance.
These activities are carried out by the Seta Forestry sector, which always seeks the lowest possible environmental impact. After all, we have great responsibility for environmental sustainability. In fact, the process involving planting is carried out using seedlings from partner nurseries, using seeds provided by Seta.
How does Seta go further with forestry?
In addition to working in forest management, we go even further. Every year Seta holds a meeting with several Black Acacia producers to promote quality information about the forestry sector, market perspectives and much more.
These meetings are essential to reaffirm the commitment between our development program and the producers who take care of the beginning of forestry cycles. After all, these partners are essential to guarantee the development and longevity of Forestry in the South of the country.
Seta stands out as a pioneer in this type of promotion that helps thousands of producers by generating jobs and income, as well as encouraging acaciculture, which is extremely relevant to the social and economic scenario of Rio Grande do Sul.
Along with this, we also participate in Forestry events and seminars, always with the intention of updating our technologies and techniques, and publicizing our forestry promotion program to increasingly encourage the planting of Black Acacia.
Thus, Seta's dedication to excellence in Forestry, the commitment to the economic and social development of the region and the encouragement of the cultivation of one of the main species that is the flagship of our products, reflects our vision of the future for the sector - where sustainability and progress go hand in hand.
